    Covid lockdown has unleashed a reverse migration from cities to villages which are witnessing a sudden spike in people seeking work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). Top officials conceded that number of villagers seeking work under the government scheme has more than doubled from three lakh in May 2019 to seven lakh in May 2020.

  • newGuj: 30 more Covid deaths in 24 hrs, toll at 888
    The death march of Covid-19 continued unabated in Gujarat as 30 more people succumbed to the virus in 24 hours on Monday, pushing the death toll to the ominous figure of 888. State recorded 405 cases, taking the total tally to 14,468. It's the highest case tally in a day for the state in 20 days as it breached 400 case-mark - recording seven Covid cases every two minutes.

    On April 18, 23-year-old Smruti Thakkar from the city became the first Covid-19 positive patient who recovered and donated her blood plasma for convalescent plasma treatment at Civil Hospital.   • newFlight operations to resume at Ahd airport today
    After 60 days, commercial flight operations will finally resume at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport in Ahmedabad on Monday. In line with the notification issued by aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), flight operations to several destinations from Ahmedabad including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigarh, Indore, Kolkata and Jaipur, among others are set to begin from the city airport.

  • Guj adds 394 Covid cases, 29 deaths in 24 hrs
    Gujarat recorded 394 Covid-19 positive cases in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday, taking the total to 14,063. The new cases include 279 from Ahmedabad, 35 from Surat, 30 from Vadodara and 11 from Gandhinagar. The state crossed the figure of 14,000 positive cases, becoming third after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu to do so.
